Convedia intros new media server on eXMP
In order to address the sophistication required for IP media processing solutions in an IMS architecture, Convedia announced CMS-3000 and CMS-9000 Media Servers based on its eXtended Media Processing technology. Convedia EVP of Marketing and Strategy Grant Henderson told me that the DSPs and processor chipsets address the modularity required for simple IVRS, middle VoiceXML and higher video processing needs, providing better economics and price per port. The new platforms are also fully backwards compatible with existing Convedia media server deployments. The CMS-9000 is a carrier-class media server optimized for large IMS network deployments, and the CMS-3000 Media Server is an entry-level media server for enterprise and smaller IMS network deployments.
The new media servers provide 3X performance improvement for VoiceXML/IVR applications, 2.5X performance improvement for messaging applications and 2X performance improvement for video applications. Henderson said that Convedia's eXMP distribution strategy is to provide the eXMP software, blade and accelerator card "components" to channel partners such as BEA Systems, Sylantro, Ubiquity, Alcatel and Avaya so they can integrate the components into branded media server solutions or fully integrated end-to-end IMS service solutions.
