Video Conferencing is the Future - 2010 Predictions
Ok, maybe this is really a prediction for the decade, but Video-based communication is the future.
Once the all-IP network is a go and the Broadband Stimulus fulfills its advertised goal of bringning broadband Internet to the majority of the U.S., the expansion of video-based communications is inevitable. Sure we might not have the bandwidth to support it all right now, but soon enough we will. Just today in FierceTelecom, Sean Buckley spotlighted how some networks are jumping from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps buildouts. If we see that reality and add an affordable 50 Gbps home Ethernet connection, VoIP+Video will surely be in the hands of most consumers through their personal computer which all seem to have embedded video cameras now.
As for business, these network upgrades will see them expanding their video use as well. Perhaps just internally at first but one day when interoperability becomes more prevalent in the B2B realm as well. With energy costs going up and the work force becoming more mobile and freelance, the use of video to keep in touch also just makes sense for the business of the future. It will cut down on office space needs, keep remote workers in touch, save on costs related to commuting back and forth from the office.
