$68 billion in wVoIP equipment in 2012?
Someone with a better library than mine ought to go back and dig out some telecom studies from five years ago, and see how close any of them came to predicting the size of the current VoIP market. I suggest the exercise only because I'm fairly certain that VoIP was then only a hazy mist on the five-year horizon favored by most market projections. This comes to mind upon hearing of a Juniper Research study that predicts $82 billion worth of VoIP over WiFi equipment will be sold by 2012. Of that figure, almost $68 billion of it will supposedly be in dual-mode cellular/wireless VoIP mobile handsets. Where did they get those figures from? Through 40 interviews with vendors and service providers; in other words, the people who would most profit from a Tinkerbell-like belief in an $82 billion market.
