911 from the public safety angle

911 remains a big deal for VoIP carriers. It may be helpful to see how the public safety community sees it. Officer.com has an interesting article from the 911 side about dealing with VoIP. Though the author put a fair share of the blame for slow implementation on VoIP carriers, he does acknowledge that the public safety planners have not been as welcoming or cooperative as they might have been. Moreover, there's still some technology that needs to be invented--and that both IP carriers and the public safety community would to well to collaborate. Not a lot new here strictly speaking, but an important insight from a vital player in the business.
