AltiGen reports Q4 results - seeing a turnaround?
Microsoft-based VoIP phone system provider, Altigen, reported their Q4 09 financial results this week and they weren't too bad. Year-over-year results were not so impressive as fiscal 2009 revenue was $17.4 million, compared to $18.9 million for fiscal 2008 and its $4.7 million net loss was wider when compared to a net loss of $3.9 million in 2008. Quarter to quarter however, the numbers were looking better.
Altigen's 2009 fourth quarter revenue was $4.9 million--down from Q4 a year ago which was $5.1 million--but up 20 percent sequentially from $4.1 million in the preceding quarter. Although the economy is showing no signs of an immediate recovery, VoIP companies are getting a boost. Could this be a sign that things are looking up?
Phil McDermott, AltiGen's CFO shed some light on the subject in the release stating that "total systems shipments in the fourth quarter increased 6.5 percent over the preceding quarter. Sales of large systems grew 31 percent sequentially to increase as a percentage of overall revenue. The continued improvement in margin in the fourth quarter reflects the more favorable product mix of larger systems along with increased service plan revenue."
AltiGen Communications expanded its European presence recently when it signed a deal with Italian distributor and telecom equipment vendor Hypercom that allows Hypercom to sell and distribute AltiGen VoIP products to companies through Telecom Italia.
