AstriCon 2008 - Skype/Asterisk partnership announcement
Phoenix, Arizona - Digium and Skype have announced a partnership to enable the Asterisk telephony platform to seamlessly access Skype's service via a channel driver.
The solution is currently in a private beta and will enable business owners to make phone calls through an Asterisk IP PBX through the Skype service, including the use of Skype names for dialing. Support for Skype's wideband codec should be available when it goes into general release, with support for video to be incorporated down the road. Switchvox, Digium's turnkey IP PBX for SMBs, is also expected to incorporate support for Skype in a future release.
Further coverage of the Digium/Skype announcement by FierceVoIP will be delivered later in the day. A brief slideshow of the announcement can be found here.

Finally!
What took them so long? This is seriously good news for both Skype and the Asterisk crowd.
Well, I'm not so optimistic. The roadmap of Skype need to re-organize to suit the partnership. And I wonder when will Skype giveup the fantasy on video phone and dedicate on the integration between asterisk and skype. Once that really happen, Cisco, Avaya and others will be panic.

Looks like Skpye is nervous as over 1100 VOIP carries use some type of IP/PBX and almost all love & use Asterisk and Digium cards.
