Bangladesh panel: Let everyone into VoIP market
Maybe we're seeing an end to the Bangladesh VoIP story, too. A government committee is now saying that pretty much everyone should be entitled to a VoIP license--legacy carriers included. You may remember that part of the fallout surrounding the closure of illegal VoIP centers was that demand for international minutes swamped the monopoly carrier. The committee recommended the VoIP carriers use the telco's undersea data cable, and that the telco more than double the number of its own international circuits within three months. The old illegal carriers wouldn't get off scot-free; the committee said they should be identified and punished.
