Case Study: How one SMB got a makeover with UC
Mailing brochures and making calls on your old legacy POTS phone is so over. In the age of unified communications (UC) even small businesses are looking like enterprise operations when they employ the latest communications advancements. With all the recent talk of VoIP equipment sales and how SMBs are upgrading to IP communications and UC in these tough economic times because of the cost savings they will get, we are seeing some examples of how this is being done.
Network World had an interesting case study on how one small cosmetics business employed Cisco's UC 520 allowing them to use IP Communicator softphones and Cisco IP handsets to make calls while replacing old brochures with 15 minute Webex conferences for potential customers. The web conferencing has allowed the company to sift through the noise and find truly interested clients, while the new VoIP system allows the CEO to work from the road and access his voicemail from his email inbox. Another interesting thing to note: the company makes outbound calls with Skype for SIP.
