EQO - Another mobile VoIP player bites the dust?
Techvibes is fingering EQO Communications as the next mobile VoIP player to go down; this despite the company's CEO citing strong user growth, and blaming job cuts initiated last month for two-thirds of the company on the economic environment.
EQO is reportedly closing down because the VCs aren't willing to fork over more cash. In remarks made last month to GigaOm, EQO CEO Bill Tam said that the October layoffs would let the company operate at "near profitability... until the smoke clears."
Guess the (economic downturn) smoke choked the company to death.
Techvibe observed EQO's web pages were cleansed of the management team over the weekend - not really a good sign anyone is home to take phone calls. We've also heard a couple of bits and pieces to make us think EQO was running out of operating capital in November.
EQO seems to be joining an ever-growing list of failed me-too mobile VoIP plays that includes Fring, Jangl, and TalkPlus. Expect at least one or two more to join the list by the end of the year.

The problem is their unsustainable business model. They have to always play catchup with the phone market to design software for new phones.
If you like this space, check out Verb Exchange. They've designed a similar but 'better than voip' product that works with both landlines and mobile phones. It's versatile, doesn't require a download and easy to use. I think they have a chance at taking a chunk out of this space in a profitable way.
EQO is another VoIP service provider like Truephone,Jajah and Vopium but if we compare it with these three VoIP service provider it seems that EQO is turn down due lack of customer analysis and new add-ons. Truephone and Jajah is offer new features for iPhone and iPod where Vopium is offering Sync service in there latest application but i can't see any value added services in this application. If we talk about cheap international calls all of them are offering cheap calls. They should start moving for new add-ons or EQO will become past!!
