European consumers embrace VoIP, ditch landlines
European households are apparently deciding that they like VoIP. A survey by the EU has found that 17 percent of households use the Internet to make phone calls. (Broadband penetration is up 6 percent to 28 percent of households.) But significantly, the number of households with at least one fixed line fell by 5 percent to 72 percent, while the number of households with at least one mobile phone stayed steady at 81 percent.
