Forget about mobile Skype
Still waiting for Skype to be available on your cell phone? Keep waiting, and you might want to catch up on your reading in the meantime because it'll be a while. Although there are some highly customized versions of Skype software that run on a limited number of dual-mode cell phones, a more general solution has long been awaited. Now comes word that although development work is continuing, it's not a high priority or anything. A Skype exec was quoted this week as saying that cellcos haven't yet rolled out data plans that would let most users take advantage of wireless VoIP in a cost-effective way. The money quote: "We don't want to be in a situation where we say: 'Skype is free' and then at the end of the month the user gets this huge broadband bill." If you've got to go with mobile Skype and not some other company, then, I guess there's always VoxLib.

Just last week we did a quick test of various solutions for using Skype or other VoIP solutions from mobile phone to save in our international calls done while driving, etc.
We selected Jajah and Mobivox as our choices in addition to using just Skype.
I wrote the whole selection process to my blog at: http://4startups.blogspot.com/
