FreeSWITCH Picks Up PIKA

Tools

PIKA Technologies has announced support for FreeSWITCH on its PIKA WARP appliance hardware.

Demonstrations of FreeSWITCH on WARP are being conducted at the ClueCon Telephony Developer Conference in Chicago this week. PIKA began to ship its WARP product portfolio in June to provide applications developers with an affordable compact alternative to typical off-the-shelf PC/voice board products for voice application development.

FreeSWITCH, an up-and-coming alternative in the open source telephony community to Digium's Asterisk product, is winning favor with developers for cleaner code and better implementation of some types of features. It can be used as a simple switching engine, PBX, media gateway or media server and the latest version includes both automatic speech recognition and text to speech in the code. Last month Sangoma announced it would be offering more in-depth support for FreeSWITCH.

PIKA's WARP appliance line is described as "ideal" for deploying small- to medium-sized IP PBX systems, IVR systems, predictive dialing systems, fax servers, and many other applications that go beyond the stock feature set in a commercial application. The appliance already supports Asterisk and Linux.
