Hacker calls VoIP a security risk

Tools

One of the smarter things anyone said to me at last week's VON show was about an unspoken benefit of legacy telecom: personal identity. When you dial a bank over the PSTN, you are 100 percent sure that, in fact, the bank is picking up. With a VoIP network, given its potential vulnerabilities, it's harder to know. An independent security consultant calling himself The Grugq, says we should expect to see an inbound identity hack/phish attack within the year. "Theoretically, you phone up your bank and the customer service line has been taken over by hackers," he told a Malaysian security conference. "There's no security technology out there that companies can deploy to fix this."
