iBasis and Telecom Italia's Sparkle migrate international calling to IP
Burlington, Ma.-based wholesale voice provider iBasis and Telecom Italia's Sparkle migrated their bilateral voice traffic to IP. According to the two service providers, they might be the first to do this full IP migration in compliance with the i3 Forum's guidlines. Moving their international voice traffic to IP will give them both cost savings and efficiencies as well as lead to the ability to offer further IP-based communications like chat, video conferencing and presence.
"We're thrilled to have achieved this migration with Telecom Italia," said Paul Floyd, Chief Operating Officer of iBasis in the release. "Telecom Italia is leading the way, but there is widespread demand among fixed and mobile operators to migrate international Voice bilaterals to IP in order to take advantage of the efficiencies and potential of IP while maintaining very high quality of service."
i3 Forum is an independent industry alliance promoting the transition of voice and related services to IP.
