InterAct deploys first SIP-based E911 solution
InterAct Public Safety Systems, a company specializing in communications security, said it has deployed in Elliott County, Ky., the first E-9-1-1 solution fully prepared for NENA and the US DOT's Next Generation 9-1-1 specifications. The InterAct solution, which operates on a private IP backbone and leverages SIP technology, allows emergency responders to see a 9-1-1 caller's calling information instantly, which used to take up to 15 seconds. The company said its deployment in Elliot County is also the first public safety answering point in the U.S. to connect to its telecom provider via SIP.
The Elliot County government also said the IP emergency network would save the county money and allow for more sophisticated information such as call location and crash details to be transmitted to operators instantly, improving response time and providing critical information to first responders. The new system also allows for operators in the emergency center to receive emergency SMS messages without a "significant equipment upgrade."
