IP Telephony Sales Down, VoIP VARs Still Up
IP telephony sales are slightly down in North America, but VARs are still as busy as ever before.
According to Infonetics Research, the IP telephony market in North America has dropped 2 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008; the market fell 4 percent year over year. The decline is attributed to some "hesitation" due to the current U.S. economic climate.
But VARs are reporting that the good times are still rolling, with steady month-over-month growth; one solution provider in Florida says VoIP sales are up 20 percent year-over-year. The second wave of VoIP adopters are a little more cautious about the technology and require more time to complete, extending sales cycles. However, the deal sizes are continuing to grow as larger businesses move out of legacy systems and onto VoIP.
