Mumbai calls FBI for VoIP evidence

Tools

As the Mumbai authorities prepare and tighten their charges resulting from the Nov. 26 terrorist attack on the city, officials want to send a three-member team to Washington D.C. to work with the FBI on handling VoIP evidence.

If the Indian Home Ministry approves the trip, the team is expected to travel to Washington later in February to secure evidence such as call details on VoIP calls made through U.S. companies between the terrorists and their handlers in Karachi, Pakistan during the attack. The additional documentation is sought to demonstrate absolute proof that the attacks were organized and controlled out of Pakistan.

India and the U.S. have signed a Mutual Legal Assistant Treaty (MLAT), so there is a formal agreement for the exchange of information between law enforcement agencies.
