Nortel updates CS 1500 with remote upgrade ability

Tools

Chalk this one up in the highly ironic column. Nortel Networks announced Wednesday it has enhanced its carrier VoIP and application portfolio through a new release of its popular product, the Communications Server 1500. Too bad the company likely won't be around as an independent entity to see what effects the launch has on sales, because Nortel is in the process of selling off its units individually, including the Carrier VoIP division.

The new enhancements include remote update ability, SIP business trunking and hunt group queuing to route calls, according to Nortel. In addition, Nortel said in the statement the new features would be completely interoperable with older Nortel products.
