Report: Mobile VoIP is poised for rapid growth
A new report from Unstrung says mobile VoIP may be primed to gain serious traction as incumbent operators give in to consumer preference for low-cost IP calling and VoIP feature sets. The report says some mobile VoIP operators like fring and Jajah could be acquired by carriers seeking to control the technology and revenue stream, instead of ceding it to these independent companies. The report also stresses that mobile VoIP allows for significant feature additions like IM and voice mashups that consumers will come to expect in a mobile package. The report's author, John Blau, predicts in 10 years that mobile VoIP will be as common as circuit-switched mobile calls are today.
