Sipera secures $10 million
Sipera Systems, a VoIP security concern in Richardson, Texas, nailed down $10 million in Series C funding. The company's product line is designed to protect VoIP systems from voice spam and theft of minutes.
The round was led by Duchossois Technology Partners with the participation of existing investors Austin Ventures, Sequoia Capital and STAR Ventures. This influx brings Sipera's total funding up to $29.5 million.
Red Herring notes that Sipera's windfall comes amid bleak news for VoIP given Vonage's woes and SunRocket's flame-out. However, enterprise-level VoIP is hot as a pistol, with entities ranging from Shimano to the Social Security department adopting the platform. VoIP is not dead. It's the next landline model. The question is one of network ownership. Sipera sells locks to whomever owns the door.
