SPOTLIGHT: Broadband Telephony Market To Double by 2013

Tools

JupiterResearch predicts the broadband telephony market will nearly double in size from 14.7 million subscribers in 2007 to 28.4 million lines in 2013.

Cable operators are expected to see most of the increase with their VoIP subscriber base nearly doubling during the forecast period, while growth for "over the top" VoIP providers will stagnate. New service offerings, such as those from AT&T and Skype, are expected to generate more buzz.

AT&T U-verse Voice is being labeled as an important market development, but challenges remain for AT&T to migrate consumers from legacy systems to VoIP. Other game changes could include Verizon moving voice on its FiOS bundle to IP and T-Mobile's "@Home" $10/month VoIP offering.
