SPOTLIGHT: Fring integrates mobile VoIP client with carrier
Some mobile VoIP players actually have a business plan beyond "If we build it, they will come." It appears fring is one of them, as the company has established a relationship to put its client on some of Telekom Austria mobilkom's phones.
In the arrangement, fring will create a custom version of its VoIP client to support Mobilkom's A1 service over IP. The first version will be on the Nokia S60, and the mobilkom client, like any standard fring client, will be able to use any Internet connection. Since mobilkom supports SIP natively, users will get both voice and IM in one package along with the social media aspects. The client is expected to be available in mid-November.
