SPOTLIGHT: Implementation headaches for VoIP & UC

Tools

Adding the latest and greatest in voice and UC to your network can generate five different types of problems, says Processor.com.

Adding or migrating voice to an existing network can result in problems if a careful assessment of existing resources isn't taken. Care must be taken to provide priority to voice packets over data and to make sure there's enough bandwidth to support voice in the first place. Older equipment, even old Ethernet switches and shared hubs -- not to mention first generation WiFi devices - weren't built to support QoS.

Shifting to VoIP also brings security and continuity of service considerations you just don't find in the POTS world.
