Tek buys Minacom

Tools

Computer geeks think of Tektronix as maker of really good color printers (it sold that business a couple of years ago). But TV techs know that Tek is really in the business of test and measurement equipment. Indeed, it's hard to find a control room or cable head-end that doesn't have a rack of Tek gear. The news this week is that Tektronix has bought Montreal-based Minacom, which has performance testing gear for IP networks of any stripe, but which has made an big push into the VoIP market, especially with cablecos. Tek is paying about $27 million for Minacom, which will stay in Montreal with its 35 employees.
