Teo promotes US-centric UC solution for government

Tools

Teo, a telecommunications company specializing in security, announced a Microsoft-based unified communications system it hopes to market to government agencies receiving stimulus dollars. Teo, formerly known as Tone Commander, will partner with software maker AltiGen Communications to provide a solution based on Microsoft Exchange that will provide more features at a 30 percent cost savings over competing solutions, according to the company.

Michael Osterman, president of enterprise communication research firm Osterman Research, said Teo has a good track record in the government space and its unified communications offering likely will attract attention in the space due to the way it streamlines management of communications systems.

"It strikes me as a really strong offering, from what I have seen of the Teo technology," Osterman said. "If their claims of cost savings of 30 percent are true, this offering could be very important, because security will be even more front of mind for these agencies, given the recent cyberterrorism attacks. Teo's strong track record in securing government communications will be a strong selling point for the solution."

Teo said the product would be available in late 2009, and it stressed the fact that it is "Made in the U.S.A." as another selling point for its use in stimulus-funded projects.
