U.K. agency rings 1 million daily VoIP calls

Tools

VoIP traffic in the U.K.'s Department for Work and Pensions has reached around 1 million per day, according to Telappliant, a London VoIP platform provider. The DWP is the largest government department in the U.K., with a staff of roughly 100,000.

Telappliant reports that 35,000 DWP employees are using the VoIP system at 435 sites around the country. A converged network is being integrated into the system that now supports 24,000 handsets, 4,000 fax machines and various legacy analog devices.

Large-scale enterprise VoIP continues to bust out throughout Europe and North America particularly, setting the stage for the next phase of the telecom evolution--unified communications.

Is this so suprising? It's been no secret that the numbers of British people signing up to the major providers like http://www.vonage.co.uk/ has been rocketing.
Voip is part of the telephony landscape here and it can't be long before the number of voip users in the UK tops 3 million. Ring out the changes!
