VoIP service revenues up 52% in '07

Tools

Worldwide revenues from hosted VoIP and managed IP PBX services continue to power along, reports Infonetics Research.

Infonetics' latest report, "VoIP Services and Subscribers," pegs the hosted VoIP/managed IP PBX services market at $24 billion in 2007. In 2006, the market grew by 66 percent. Growth in the "strong" double digits is expected through at least 2011, with hosted VoIP services continuing to outpace managed IP PBX services by far.

Residential services have been fueling market growth, according to Infonetics, with businesses moving comparatively slower in the adoption due to various roadblocks.  However, business growth is expected to pick up as technology issues are resolved.  SIP trunking and SIP trunking certification compatibility are two significant factors in market growth.

Other highlights show that the number of worldwide residential/SOHO VoIP subscribers grew 60 percent between 2006 and 2007 to more than 75 million. The largest gains occurred in North America and EMEA; although the Asia Pacific region still leads the pack, it isn't by much.  EMA is expected to break away and lead the market through at least 2010.
