Vonage pays $3M to states over customer complaints

Vonage is paying $3 million to 32 U.S. states in a settlement due to customer complaints over three main issues: the difficulty of canceling service; a requirement to have a high-speed broadband line to access the service; and the definition of "free" services, including money back guarantees and trial service periods. Vonage will also refund customers claiming to be affected by the alleged problems.
As part of the settlement, Vonage did not admit blame for any illegal activities and has noted that it is changing certain business practices in an SEC filing. The states will use the settlement to pay for legal fees and other costs which means customer compensation will be left up to the refunds Vonage promises to provide.

I agree with Mary in cleveland, vonage needs to be out of business, they are ripping people off and don't even have the common decentcy to tell people if you have and alarm system in your home vonage is not for you because you will have to get the phone line through another phone company. I learned this the hard way. And I want my money back from vonage in the class action suit.

This company uses the most deceptive advertising practices I have ever seen. Their ad expressly states you receive unlimited around the world calling for $24.95. Well my boyfriend lives in the UK so I thought this would be a great plan for me. I expressly asked if this covered cell phones and was told YES.... I found out after the fact (and a HUGE phone bill)that they do NOT cover cell phones in the UK (but they do cover cell phones in SOME other countries). They have lost a suit in my state (Maine) for using these deceptive advertising practices to which I am adding my name. They blantantly lie, the connection is consistantly very bad and their customer service is HORRIBLE! Vonage should be out of business!!!!!!!!
