Voxeo opens up its cloud

Tools

Voxeo, a unified communications and telephony platform vendor, announced the release of the source code for its cloud-based voice service Tropo.com. According to the company, the source code will be available though an open source license program.

Voxeo CEO Jonathan Taylor told TMCnet the company wants to avoid "walled garden" telco environments through promotion of open source development. The company announced Tropo as the first of many upcoming announcements around open source telephony at OSCON, the open source conference Thursday.

The Tropo offering allows developers to leverage Voxeo's cloud-based platform to write telephony applications in many different programming languages, including PHP, Ruby and Javascript, according to the company.
