Will bloggers want to talk to each other?
What happens when you combine blogging with VoIP? I have no idea, but we're about to find out. SIPphone, publishers of the open-standards-based Gizmo Project VoIP application, are teaming up with blogging pioneer LiveJournal. Gizmo Project competes in the same space as Skype (except, because its protocols aren't proprietary, is less scary to administrators). LiveJournal is the consumer weblog product from SixApart, which also publishes Movable Type and Typepad. The Gizmo software on LiveJournal allows instant messaging and voice calling to an LiveJournal user's friends list. Will bloggers want to talk to each other and type at each other interactively, or is reading the blog going to be enough interaction? For SIPphone, of course, the deal will be a traffic driver. For LJ, it's a community building. As a business model? The jury is out.
