Telephony has always been a capital-intensive pursuit; in the new world of telephony, fortunately, companies do not need to build end-to-end solutions by themselves. With its open-source Asterisk VoIP PBX, Digium has attracted around itself a sizable community of innovative developers and enterprises who seem to come up with new ideas by the boatload. Big enterprises are still a little shy about open-source. That's OK. There's a ton of smaller businesses who are willing to embrace it and save money until the big shops come around.
